Is it just me or am I seeing more mathematics in this election. My mom would always say that we could never beat our counterpart in the number and words game because they make up the numbers, words and the rules. She would say that they make the rules, break the rules and suspend the rules at the same time.

After my Wiz post and the announcement of Palin as the Republican Candidate, I became aware of the idea the obvious "get Hilary votes" trick. Later it occured to me that it became more of an election, once again, between the two minorities in government, Obama and Palin.

As it occurs to me McCain and Biden cancels one another out leaving us back at Obama vs. Palin (Hilary). As I heard at a resturant in Jersey City, while eating with a friend, a young latin girl asked one of her friend who said he would vote for Obama in the primary , "You mean you would vote for a Black over a woman?" Once again race is injected into the Campaign and it is not as subtle as one may believe.

Maybe I am wrong in my views. Therefore, I am open to the possibility of changing my views. Please let me know what you think.

At this point when I see Country First (McCain's running slogan) and the American flag it reminds me of stories of the Civil War and Civil Rights movement. It sounds as if they are saying "save our country from this nigger" and the flag takes on a different connotation as if it were a Confederate flag.

HE IS COMING TO SAVE US...PRAISE HIM!!!

The other day I was walking to my office on 125 and Lenox in Harlem and decided to go to a major coffee chain for an iced drink to beat off the early morning heat. On my way there, I overheard a conversation in passing between a middle-aged lady and older gentleman. The lady owned a stand on the corner in front of the coffee chain and the male was passing admiring the the Barack Obama articles for sale. The gentleman made a statement to the affect of Barack being the man for the job. In turn the lady shouted out "Yes, He is coming to save us!" Hearing this, I continued on my way to purchase my drink yet couldn't get the thought of Barack coming "to save us." The question is who is "us" and save "us" from who or what?

Don't get me wrong, I am a huge supporter of Barack and all that he stands for. I am a great champion to the cause of getting a brother in the White House other than to be a butler or gardener. Unlike Jesse Jackson, I like my leaders with their balls intact, so this is not a dig on Obama nor the cause for getting him elected. However, this is more a point of getting Blacks, Africans and Americans alike to wake up and smell the s^!t on your noses. Unfortunately, Barack is not coming to save us! This is not the second coming of the Christ, providing that you believe he is coming to save or redeem.

Barack Obama is one man, as with you or I. He is a mere man no more than King, X, Tubman or the mailman for that fact, he is simply a vessel or a tool to deliver a message or to be a bridge for change. Like a bridge over water that is not bringing two land masses together, yet is a conduit for making transition between the two more fluid, this should be our view on Barack and his role in the lives of Blacks and Whites in America and nations around the world. I often referred to Barack and his view of change as it appears to Blacks in likeness to The Wiz with Richard Pryor, Michael Jackson and Diana Ross.

The message is clear and has been for quite some time now. There is no doubt that Blacks had been looking for a leader since the first Moses. It is also apparent that since the assignation of King, X and the Panthers in the 60's, blacks have longed for someone to fill in the gap where the voids presently still stand. As with many of the leaders in the Bible preceding Chirst, we had come close, yet no cigar. It is also plain that, as with The Wiz in selecting someone to represent our voice, be it a preacher or a politician, African Americans tend to rest or lay all of our problems at the feet of this chosen person. We tend to look at our leaders as Saviors instead of being a source or conduit to getting things accomplished.

The reason I referenced The Wiz, is because it starts out where Dorthy is disconnected emotionally and spiritually from self and family. At dinner during a large snow storm in NYC the family has gathered and are singing "Don't Loose the Feeling." It is here where Dorthy is being by her aunt to grow up and not be afraid to move on to bigger better things. She is assured that in here moving forward, other things will open up to her and yet she would have a safety net, if the need arises for one. As the scene progresses, Toto, Dorthy's dog runs into the snow storm and Dorthy runs out to save him, finding that she herself needs saving from the storms powerful winds. The winds are so powerful that she is blown into a different dimension where she meets a strange set of characters. First off, she meets a group of inner city kids that had been oppressed by its government, one of the wicked witches. As the story moves on she is told that inorder to get back home she needs to find this wizard who has the answers to get her back.

In Dorthy's search to find this wizard, in her silver shoes along the yellow brick road, he runs into a scarecrow, a tin man and a lion, who are in search of a brain, a heart and courage, go figure. Along there journey to Emerald City, they run into a number of issues (e.g. sex, drugs and impressions) that that mirrors a few of the plights of the black community. Once at Emerald City, the viewer is introduced to the community of "impressionist" that makes the case that life is pretty much set by what the wizard says. The Wiz tells them what and when to wear certain clothing. Once inside to the Wizard, we find that in order for Dorthy to get back home the Wiz needs her for a favor as much as she needs him. In the end upon completing the task of the Wiz, Dorthy and her company finds that the Wiz is a mere man with faults and he will use her and her friends to get what he wants (i.e. a politician).

For once in our lifetime where Blacks or African Americans or Africans are at the brink of making history of becoming President in these United States we can not "Loose the Feeling."
The feeling that we can achieve whatever we might put our minds to accomplish. In the Wiz, it is apparent that the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion represent our community and our lack of certain qualities. It also occurs to me that "the brain" missing by the Scarecrow is our ability to be thinkers or having someone point the way for us. The "Heart" is our ability is lift our brothers and sisters in time of need. Last, but not least, "Courage" to fight like hell to change our situations if felt threatened. Instead of taking the responsibility to posses all of these things as a community, we place them at the feet of one person and are disappointed when he or she fails us, because like you and I he or she is human and also posses the quality of failure.

So remember, as you dance around in your Emerald City, awaiting the sirens and a Word from the Wiz, he is only a man. He has not come to save or redeem us from our sins. Instead of setting Barack up for failure, let's use what we have had in us all along, Wisdom, Heart and Courage to get back to that place that we all know of as "home." Home is only what we make of it. With your help and active work, we can elect Barack as our next president and make our "White House" a home.

"No Baby, God will Provide"

Ok so less than 24hrs after my first post, I had to come on again to post my updates (yes there are updates to this mornings post). So I stated previously about looking for a place to rent, well as of today I have a friend whose roommate moved out, leaving a room vacant. Well after thinking it over and talking with my friend about the room for rent, I decided to take the room. So now I am living in Harlem, USA on 116 and Lenox (Hot Stuff). Now although I have the option to say here, I am still looking to room with Marlon next month if this plan is still a go.

It is July 4th and all day I haven't been feeling like people, so I decided to stay in and edit my documentary filmed in South Africa. I am glad that I made the decision to stay in because it had been poring down here in the city. But being in, going out just once to purchase a few item for the room to make it feel personal, I stepped out to grab a bite to eat. While standing under the scaffold connected to the building, staying dry from the rain, a lady approached me and asked me if I wanted a BBQ plate(of course I said yes after smelling the smoke from the meat on the grill). Receiving my plate, I asked if I could pay her for it she stated "God will Provide". I thanked her and returned to the apartment where I stated to myself after reflecting on my truths, "He already has".

Revealing the truth, in all situations, will make you free. Even if the outcome is not what you would expect, there is liberation in truth.

God, you know you are too Dapper for our own good!!!

Truth

There are a number of areas that I must become clear about with my friends and family. These areas have to deal with the truth in how I am being and living. In these matter it had somehow began to bother me that not knowing or not revealing how I feel to my loved ones sometimes keeps them at bay. This Independence Day, I want to be liberated about some things that may go unspoken and put some things on the table that I or we may be made free by these truths.

1. My Projects
It truly bothers me that many of my so-called friends or family have not picked up the phone to congratulate me on my achievements in Africa. Here I am a young black male setting out to make a difference in the global community, by providing education to students who in many cases would not have the opportunity to learn the skills that I am teaching in their everyday walk of life, and a majority of my friends and none of my family outside of my immediate family has expressed their feelings of my work and many have not even offered a single dollar to the occasion. In reality this is not a major issue to me because regardless of the congrats or none at all, this does not change the fact that I will set out to make a difference and God get the glory.

With this project in mind, I must mention that one of my students from South Africa is here for three weeks on a travel scholarship and he will be touring the city, DC and Chicago along with connecting with other students that I work with in Harlem. If anyone (providing people still read my blog) could provide any suggestions on what can be done in NYC free of charge, this would be of great assistance.

2) My living- Again, I must thank God for giving me such a free spirit and not allowing me to worry much about what is around the corner. In my giving to others, I have found myself in a situation where I am need of living quarters ASAP. I thank God, He being the author and finisher of my faith and a provider, has managed to have people that I may have blessed or affected positively in the past to not forget and return the favor, by allowing me to stay with them until I find my place. With this being said, this is the first time in my life that I had to stay and depend on people for housing, but God once again gets the glory and I know he will provide a way for my living situation.

You know, I can actually go on and on and on about how my family and friends are nearly not present in my life, but you know God is too good to reflect on people and their lack. God has provided and I know he is pleased with my works and my faith in him, and with this I know that I am free, independent and blessed. I am now, despite what I may be going through, looking forward to my return to Africa. I am now looking forward to pursuing my PhD in theory, Art History or Philosophy or maybe just returning to take business courses. I am also blessed that God is placing new people in my life that is up with what I want to cause in the lives of others, transformation. Motionphics In Action is getting off the ground as we speak. I have a new lawyer friend who is stepping in to aid me in getting certain things done. My first television deal ever is underway and I will have my works represented on the continent of Africa.

Life is a network of conversations. If you keep with the same folks, you will continue to have the same conversations along with the same experiences. Variety is the spice of life, mix it up.

Life is Dapper and that is ALL the truth I need!

Easter in Alice, South Africa

Long road to Alice!

While everyone was celebrating the Lord's resurrection, I made a trip to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. All I have to say is "Countraaaaaaaaaaaaay, Country!" Dirt roads and cattle roaming the streets as if it was just a normal day in New York. The road above was just about of a forth of what we traveled to get to the house.

Just behind me is a riverbank. My first day here the black bull over my left shoulder chased me into the riverbank as he tried to pass. Thank God it is summer and dried out!

I love this pic! The hut behind me was the old clinic in the community. Here they tended to sick children.

Back in Cape Town for three months and I am enjoying ever step of the way.

It's been a week since being back in Cape Town and all is well. I met my kids again and was greeted with lots of hugs and phone calls. It's so funny because they are in high school and they hardly have anything to talk about. I am sure we can remember those days of talking on the phone and not saying anything worth wild. Hell, I know some of you now that don't have anything to say worth wild! LOL! But nonetheless it's a cute gesture to say that they are excited to see me back. Many of the teachers greeted me in the same manner. One even went out of his way to take me on a tour of my favorite mountains to date, Table Mountain.

The other night, during the lunar eclipse, I had one of the most amazing evenings of my life. I slept under the stars and moon on a cool night as I watched the mountains. I must say that The landscape here is the greatest I have seen to date. I am fortunate to have the mountain in my view morning, noon and night. It is definitely a moment to reflect on God's greatness and what he has in store for my life. If God created these mountains thousands of years ago and I can still reflect on its beauty, then my life and its impact could have the same reflection long after I am gone from this earth.

Following the success of my last outreach with the students of South Africa, I have decided to make a second effort to share my knowledge and abilities in education.

For the next three months, I will be once again living in Cape Town, South Africa teaching at a local inner city school, where gang violence and drugs are all too real. My focus will be to give these students positive and alternative outlets in the world they live.

In the New Year if your famine seems to last too long, why not try some Stone Soup.

The Story of Stone Soup

Once upon a time, somewhere in post-war Eastern Europe, there was a great famine in which people jealously hoarded whatever food they could find, hiding it even from their friends and neighbors. One day a wandering soldier came into a village and began asking questions as if he planned to stay for the night.

"There's not a bite to eat in the whole province," he was told. "Better keep moving on."

"Oh, I have everything I need," he said. "In fact, I was thinking of making some stone soup to share with all of you." He pulled an iron cauldron from his wagon, filled it with water, and built a fire under it. Then, with great ceremony, he drew an ordinary-looking stone from a velvet bag and dropped it into the water.

By now, hearing the rumor of food, most of the villagers had come to the square or watched from their windows. As the soldier sniffed the "broth" and licked his lips in anticipation, hunger began to overcome their skepticism.

"Ahh," the soldier said to himself rather loudly, "I do like a tasty stone soup. Of course, stone soup with cabbage -- that's hard to beat."

Soon a villager approached hesitantly, holding a cabbage he'd retrieved from its hiding place, and added it to the pot. "Capital!" cried the soldier. "You know, I once had stone soup with cabbage and a bit of salt beef as well, and it was fit for a king."

The village butcher managed to find some salt beef . . . and so it went, through potatoes, onions, carrots, mushrooms, and so on, until there was indeed a delicious meal for all. The villagers offered the soldier a great deal of money for the magic stone, but he refused to sell and traveled on the next day. The moral is that by working together, with everyone contributing what they can, a greater good is achieved.

Cherishing Mother

I think I am going through one of the hardest periods of my young adulthood. On this past Saturday, I watched the lid close forever on what I would call greatness. The final viewing of my grandmother. Here is an exercise in thanks for all.
As we enter into the holiday season, I can't help but to reflect on two good friends that past this week. Two separate occasions, two seperate states. I reflect on their lives and how they touched mine and others around them. This past week, my mind heavily feel on them and the conversations we had, celebrated life and how we praised God.

On last week, I lost a childhood buddy and classmate in a motorcycle accident. I remember my classmate and childhood buddy for his jokes and larger than life smile. His smile will be missed.

My grandmother in her 88th year of life is now in hospice care. She suffered a stroke some years ago and had been bed bound since. The older of a set of twins, she and her sister share a great bond. Here is where God steps into the equation. Her sister has Alzheimer's and has trouble recognizing family and friends including names. As I grew up I always remembered them celebrating a birthday toast and party with their children, grandkids, djs, the whole nine yards. Well as my grandmother began to have major pains and was admitted into hospice, we were told that her sister, who does not remember anyone, began calling her name for a full day. Not long after she became sick and had to enter the hospital.

So as i prepare to go home to be with my grandmother in her final chapter of life, just to thanks her for helping me in life, giving me a place to stay, for the whippings(omg the broomstick), for the nurturing and for the extra take home eggnog on christmas and new years (which is her and her sister's bday, yet they are a year apart. figure it out), i want to show my appreciation for life. I thank God for his blessing s daily. I thank him for my family and friends that i have met and gained along the way. I think him for keeping me in my right mind, when i and other sometimes think I may be losing it. LOL.

I could go on forever, but forever is not mine here.

As we go into the Thanksgiving holiday, which is before we beg for gifts(lol), let us all be thankful for our gifts given by the creator naturally in life.

I'M BAAAAAAAAAAACK!

This past week has been a roller coaster of emotions. I had been really tired and tried to catch up on some rest, I am missing Africa like crazy, one of my students emailed me to say that he missed me and wishes that I hurry back. So I have been going through it. All while starting a new job the day after i returned to the states. Can you say JET LAGGED?

On the trip, many people are emailing me and asking about pics, videos and stories. All of these things are underway. There are over 1500 photos to organize. over 30 hours of video to review and so many stories to tell i don't even kn ow where to begin. I ask that you bear with me as I attempt yo organize my life and give you the best possible experience ever.

Thanks for all of the well wishes and support towards the trip. Just to know that you inquired about the trip meant a lot to me. It was a true blessing to be able to touch lives and be appreciated for your efforts. So know that your thoughts and prayers were a part of making this experience a memorable one for life.

Here is a safe sex ad in Cape Town, South Africa. It is great to see that the word is getting around, no matter how funny the concept. This is an ad in the community where I placed to work. The area is very heavily populated, yet the HIV/Aids rate is an unbelievable high. In this community the rate is at 33% infected with the disease. It will only spread more if there is not more advocacy done to make the people feel that it is important to think about safe sex to be around for their kids.

It is interesting to note that children, here in Cape Town and surrounding areas, as young as 9 yrs old are often abandoned, forced to live alone when a parent or both parents pass from the disease.

Power of the Dream 2

As I prepared for my trip to Cape Town, I found myself listening to MLK speeches on my Ipod as I showered and did various chores around the house. Although I did not live during his time, I found myself engulfed by his dream of equality for all. Moved by his words I began to think and realize that this one man, a single man had a dream, a vision that not only lived in his mind, but in his consciousness. This dream manifested itself and became a planted seed in the lives of all that embraced his ideas. An ordinary man, bound by the laws of the land and stumbling blocks of his time, thought beyond his limitations to dream and put this dream into action.

There IS power in dreaming! Kellyanne, once again refering to the movie Opal Dream, convinced her family and community that her imaginary friends once lived. In return, again, there were two coffins, a hole, a gathering, flowers, a speech and two headstones marking marking that the dream once lived. ALL OF THIS FROM A DREAM!!!

In the case of King, there was a vision that was moved upon and snowballed into a movement. Although seeing some of the benefits of his dream , the dreamer was for what lived in him. The powerplay comes in at the point where you have others engaged into that dream. No longer around to lead his vision, his passion for what he dreamed lived long beyond his years. Note that we, to this day, ate still using his words and teachings to further his dream.

As with a mother and child, it is my belief that once a dream starts to live it becomes independent of the dreamer and takes on a life if its own, thus outliving the dreamer.

Power of the Dream 1

"Everyone dreams all the time...Opal shines like stars, but it's underneath. You can't see it. You can't see it, but you can dream about it. The more you dream , the more you wanna dig for it. But, if you dig too deep you may never wake up..."

The quote above came from the movie Opal Dreamwhich I had seen in route to Cape Town. Opal Dream is a movie about a young girl, "Kellyann Williamson" (played by Sapphire Boyce) in an opal mining community who has the imaginary friends that she plays with and keeps her company on a daily basis.

As with many kids, with vivid imaginations, the adults would role play and feed into the young girl's fantasy. She would receive lolly pops for "Pobby and Dingan," because as her imagination would have it, it was their favorite. As the story develops, her imaginary friends one day, being watched by her father and becomes lost in a mining field. Upon the father's return to the home, Kellyanne, not seeing her friends, starts to panic and worry about their safety. Worrying so that she would not let it rest, she causes her father to go out in the middle of the night with a flash light to look for them. A hunt which got him in trouble for "ratting," a term used for miners who were accused of stealing from other miners. Her constant worries also employed her brother to post missing flyers around the town for two imaginary people.

With the stories development, the brother began to find clues that the two friends died in a mining accident. Skeptical to the belief before, the brother now employed by his sister's dream, is now tasked to plan a public funeral for Pobby and Dingan. A funeral for two imaginary friends, planned in a town full of skeptics, complete with coffins, flowers, headstones...the works. In the end, the townspeople attends the funeral. Although skeptics of the existence of Pobby and Dingan before, the funeral caused them to become real in their hearts and minds.

Not thinking I would like this movie, I could not help but find myself being drawn into Kellyanne's world of imagination. Like Kellyanne, I also dream. There are times when I dream so, I sometimes believe that I am out of my mind. Knowing that not every dream that comes to consciousness becomes a reality, I do dream of being successful at whatever I set my mind to doing.

As with Kellyanne's imagination, not only were her friends a thought, to her they actually lived. They lived so, that when they became lost or misplaced she could not rest. For all who dream or hope to dream, our dreams should reside not only in our minds, but also in our hearts. Your dream should live so much to the point that they manifest and become real to others as well.

To answer your question Soldier, I am on such a high right now, I can't even describe it. My heart is full with many currents of emotions. I awoke this morning feeling as if I could fly. My morning has been filled with praise. For some reason all of my songs this morning were about Gods protection and his promise to keep and sustain me. They just flowed one into another. Once again, is is difficult to describe. There is such a peace in my body amidst the struggle and rush to prepare. Today I received an email with my assignment for South Africa. I am being placed in a high school drama department where i am being asked to help the children produce a skit and some video pieces. I see this a grand opportunity to work in some PSAs about the local region and community at large. It's Just One of Life's Little Lessons!

It has occurred to me that I have received little to no traffic on this page,if so I received no proof of it activity. It has also been revealed to me that when it comes to this trip, many doubt and other make or made fun of my dream and vision to travel to Africa from its inception. Loving to laugh and to joke, I believe, I come off to some as a total joke and to others as just a mouth and a bunch of words with no action behind them. Whatever the case may be, one tends to learn a little more about himself, and others, as he set out and accomplishes goals and overcome obstacles, which other may deem impossible for you to accomplish.

Speaking with a friend yesterday, he was bothered by the fact that he just released his second book and no one that he considered to be his friends in the black gay community and those whom he has supported all the while, didn't show up to his event. Although a complete success, as far as numbers and revenue was concerned, it bothered him more so to not see folks from his community. While seeing this as a disgrace and a pity on those who represents themselves as his friends, I made it known to him that "his book release" was not "their book release." In terms of passion, the passion, drive and commitment that he placed into writing the books and releasing is not the same passion that others will receive or offer back to him in knowing that he has accomplished this goal. Therefore, it is just one of life's little lessons to learn and know that your goals are strictly that, "YOUR GOALS."

In the same day, I received a visit from another friend who purpose was to come to my place and chat. As I was cleaning my room and chatting with him, he began to as me about my trip and how it came about that I was going. He stated that he remembered just on last year that i mentioned in my blog and to him that I wanted to go to Africa and now I am doing it on next Friday. I began to give him the rundown of how things played and how excited I was to be going. In the same instance that I am telling him about my happiness, he turns around and "buts" me. Butting me as in, "but, how are you going to do this" and "but, how will you survive when you return now that you left your job for this trip." I made it known that I would be paying my bills before I leave for leave for this trip and that, it just works out that, when I return from this trip, I was contacted to return to an editing job I tend to freelance around this time of year through the opening months of the following year. He in turn "buts" me again, stating that I have come too far to be leaving a job to follow a whim. Another of life's lessons came into play at that moment. People in most cases are likely to "but" your dreams and goals.

My goals and dreams are mine. I can't expect everyone to be as passionate nor as supportive as I am about my desires. In the case of the friend with the book release, I made it known that their has to be a re-evaluation of friends and those whom you surround yourself. It is necessary to, at times, drop old friends and surroundings in order to live your dreams and goals. Never in this life time, did I think that by stepping back and examining the things I thought, I would be able to accomplish by forsaking other for even a moment, could these dreams be possible. As for the other "butting friend," I have come the the conclusion that people are successful in business because they took a risk. A risk in following their dreams and having others to work their dreams into a reality, constantly. So as I stated to this friend, and my boss, I am following my dreams. The realization is that if I lose out on any physical property, there is only one me.One heart, body, mind and soul. everything else is a replica and is mass produced. All of which could be regained. I would never know if I could accomplish a goal or task if I could not step out on the faith that I could achieve more.

No lie can live forever...

It has come to my attention that I have been painted in various peoples mind as a abuser. Now even though I am not as active in the church, because of its some of its hypocritical ideals and rules, I still believe that God still reigns over my decisions and rules over my goals and thoughts for life. In believing this, I think that His ways are higher than my own and he is faithful and just in his dealings. I also believe that just as in the courts, the minutes of our lives are being recorded. While this is my belief, it is also my belief that God has given us all common sense to filter and sift out any untruths through inductive and deductive reasoning.

As we all know there are two sides to every story. It is not in my nature to run and tell wild imaginary tales on and about folks. Even when situations are in my favor, I will hold and keep things to myself. Once again this will not be a drawn out matter of who said or did what. All I have to say is check, check and re-check the stories that you hear. Note, if such were the case of abuse, wouldn't things be different.

My Goal to have a Life Altering Experience Through Travel

Okay, here I am at 5am looking for a job that will make an impact in my working, spiritual and cultural experience. While looking on the site I ran across a volunteer/intern program that allows one to travel to various countries to work in various ways. I have decided over the past few months that I wanted to travel abroad and here was my answer to my longing for this experience. I have decided to take the experience in the Motherland. My works would include HIV/AIDS awareness, conservation or local orphanages in Kenya or South Africa. This would also serve as a great opportunity to create a documentary on my travels. The great thing about this program is that it is year round and is a great way to vacation with a purpose. It is my plan to produce various fundraiser to fund my trip(s) back home to the first home that God built, AFRICA.

If there are an ideas concerning fundraising please feel free to give input. Also it would be dapper to have a group of friends with similar interest to travel together back to Africa.

On last Sunday, I found myself running home and throwing off my plaid school girl skirt and kicking off my brown loafer shoes, as I cried uncontrollably. Pillows soaked, kicking my legs in the air and twirling my hair screaming at the top of my lungs. My inner monologue was "I just wanna belong like the others." I made it to my first BALL experience and I pretty much stood in awe at the beauty and technique of the participants and the different houses represented. I stood and noticed for the first time the art form that is so predominant in the community. The art of imitation and how the ballroom environment totally mimmicks life. There was new found beauty in all that appeared before me. Its glamour and glitter, yet no real gold.

One Life to Live (a previous blog that never made it to see the light of day)

Forgive me Father for I have sinned. It has been 2 months since I last blogged and I seek you forgiveness and guidance in doing so now. Since my last blog, in these sacred walls, I witnessed the lost of two friends in one week which in turn led to two funerals the following week and a month stay in Atlanta. Father since my last blog you called home my brother Corey to your side after two years of me being present to receive glow from his radiant smile. This brother you allowed me to interact with at many social gatherings as he dance with your energy. An energy that showed your mercy and love for us all. A brother with no hang ups on living his life, because it was golden. In witnessing this spirit upon, his passing, my friend has inspired me to continue my dream to travel. Father, two days later you called my brother Randall home to lead your angels in praise and worship through dance. It was this brother who took children and molded them into graceful dancers. I was this brother who you blessed with a heart of gold and a voice of angels to bless and sing your praise. My brother that you allowed me to meet in church in Savannah, Georgia doing what he loved doing the most, teaching your children the art of praise dance. A brother whose love extended all boundaries and often told me only as he could "To thine own self be true." So to my brother Randall, thank you for your soft spoken words and your kindness towards all in your presence. Brother you are soaring with angels.

So as I reflect on the lives of my two friends, I begin to appreciate the life that I was given to live. A life, that if not lived to it fullest, will be a life wasted. These two brothers blessed others not by the good deeds that they had done, but by living their lives to the fullest and in return. Eveyone was blessed by the abundance, the overflow of what their experiences brought to light. So like Zelda in his never ending quest to save his girlfriend, I too am on a quest to discover what is longing to escape before I am put back on life's shelf.

Greetings to all of my fellow bloggers,

I know that it has been a minute since my last blog and I do apologize for my unfaithfulness. There have been a series of issues in my life that has kept me away from blogging. To start, I will say that this is a personal apology, once again, to any person or persons that I may have had misunderstandings with in the past. Now in saying that, this does not mean that I am wrong for anything that has happened in these misunderstandings. This is simply turning over a new leaf and starting my life over stress free. This will not be a he said she said battle. That was then and this is now welcome to me.

I am still Dapper D, yet on another level. I don't have time for the childishness of the past. The scripture states that as children we speak as such, but as we mature and become wiser we should change our speech to reflect this change in thinking. In doing so, it also states that we should lay aside every weight or burden that pulls us down. It should be known that a weight is an anchor. All weights may not stop you in your tracks ,but they will however slow down your progress.

There is a negro spiritual that says " I keep so busy working for my Master, ain't got time to die." I am reminded in this spiritual, that my life is to be a praise to God for what he has given me. With my praise, He has given me the ability to have choices and set goals. There was a point in my life where I allowed circumstances and issues to cloud my judgment and my accomplishment of goals. Now, as a planted seed breaking ground for the first time, I am shaking off the dirt that weighed me down that I may blossom and grow into full praise. I refuse to die buried in this dirt, because there are yet unaccomplished goals. In other words, I AM TOO BUSY TO DEAL AND DWELL IN FOOLISHNESS.

I love all and pray that all prosper, however it is time for my change. Just like this seed shaking of the dirt, it too is time to shake of people. It is to be said that this seed is also shaking the many times it was walked on by passersby. In order to grow we must cut ties(pruning), no matter how painstaking. There comes an hour in the day when all should re-evaluate friendships and acquaintances that effect or lives. Therefore, here and now, I have come to that point and put all on notice that your evaluation, as with your college professor's, is now present or over due. We should surround our lives with persons capable of enhancing and complimenting us. At this point in my life, I need more professional, "being about the business of business" friends.

I have shot the breeze long enough. LET'S DO BUSINESS!

It has almost been one month that I have spent in the city of Atlanta catching up with friends and relatives. Looking back on my old college stumping ground, I am reminded of the great times that I enjoyed in the ATL. It is with pride that I return to the New York area with a renewed commitment of success. I now am putting a plan in place to return to New York better than when I left.

Business is now top priority. Look to hear from me in the near future with larger than life dreams.

FAITH IS THE SUBSTANCE OF THINGS HOPED FOR AND THE EVIDENCE OF THINGS NOT SEEN!

I escaped with my life because of my faith in God.

It started when I attended a service that was a bit unusual to say the least. The sanctuary was filled with friends and close acquaintances from the years past having a good time. The atmosphere thick with praises and singing, yet lacked one thing that this young southern Baptist Christian knew all to well. I opened my mouth and cried out the name of Jesus and the place became silent. I was greeted by an usher (not Raymond)who proceeded to tell me that it was not that kind of party and that I needed to take back the words just uttered. Upon my refusal I was escorted out of the sanctuary still praising God for his greatness and mercies. The usher perturbed with my boldness to praise reached and pulled out a gun and started shooting at me. I had no place to run, so there I stood. She fired many times in my direction yet the bullets seemed to bounce off of me causing no harm. My life had been spared once again due to my faith in God.

The next morning I opened my as I opened my eyes to get ready for work,I began to notice that I was verbally praising in my sleep and this was all just a dream. Although a dream the scenario spoke volumes to my soul. Undoubtedly, I believe that God is working on my behalf and I shall be victorious.

Now lately, I have been having this problem of unemployment/Lack of work/ Freelancing all at the same time. On Last Monday, I received a call to report to an assignment editing video for a medical foundation that was to last one day paying very well. Once on the job my boss was pleased with my work and I was told that my assignment would last throughout the week. Then I was asked to do some overtime on Saturday. (Side note as I am writing this the story continues to unfold) Today as I reported for this OT assignment, I was asked to accompany the design team to Washington,DC for a week, all expenses paid.

God is great! As I blogged this entry and my boss walked in and began to talk to me about the works of God and how he(God) put people in places. Go figure. He also began to ask me about my church affiliations and how he did video and graphics in the church.

VISION

Write the vision make it plain upon the tables that he may run that readeth it. A scripture simply stating that a written vision is easier for others to follow than just a spoken word.

Recently I attended what I was told would be a job interview for a position that I was told I would be perfect for fulfilling. I was told to be at the New Yorker Hotel at 6:30. Upon arriving at this interview I noticed what appeared to be a few hundred people standing on the second floor lobby where this interview was to take place. The interview was suggested by a friend who introduced me to his manager and salesteam upon entering the second floor lobby. We signed in and enter a conference room one hour after I arrived at the hotel. Upon entering the room the music was bumping loudly and folks were running for seats near the front. Just when the sanctuary like atmosphere filled a young speaker got up to introduce all to the meeting. The atmosphere then filled with cheering and amen type hooping and hollering which immediately set off alarms of "sales pitch" or cult to me.
After the introduction of the speaker, the crowd sprang to their feet in reverence.

Running to the front as if he was entering an infomercial, a young 26 year old Asian male speaking perfect slang as if directly from the streets of some urban neighborhood. He began his speech with his tear-jerking testimony of how he and his family had come from China and they didn't have enough money for food, Starter jackets...blahza blahza. He then began to paint the picture of how he hang with the wrong crowd doing the wrong things and losing his relationship with his family
(Enters the sales pitch)until he started selling this one product. He spoke of how his father who once "hated him" now loves him again. Since selling this product he has new suits, cars and real friends that he never had before. Of course, the new friends are the fellow salespersons in the meeting in which he is speaking. After all of the hook and line here comes the sinker. All of this could be yours for $390.

A young lady in my group gets up and walk out followed by another brother who was escorted out because he was not going to be taken for $390. Upon leaving these people were openly scorned for "not having a vision." This truly disturbed me and I knew the pitch was coming but I stayed out of respect for the friend. After the public disrespect for those who left, I got up and walked out. Not only did I walk out, but I waited to see if my vision would be seen to fulfillment. I was my vision that the speaker would be eating his microphone and the escort would be screwed by the same mic. This did not happen the speaker made eye contact with me and said nothing.

This is where the problem arises in me. Where do people get off judging others because what they see as a goldmine is not the same to others. It is ok to have a vision, but remember your vision is your vision and others do not have subscribe to it. This would be the same your goals and visions not aligning with others visions and goals. Just know that this is quite ok and that it does not have to result in fighting or name calling. It would be in the best interest of everyone involved that if someone does not align with your vision let them move on and you should do the same. It is not wise to have someone handling your vision when they do not share the same vision, which does not make them bad or less than human.

Making your vision plain to yourself and others, can avoid one from trampling over your vision to fulfill theirs and keep you from losing site of your own goals.

Sup folks,

Dis ya b da dappa 1 here right here having a not so dappa time in my life right now. My baby, the G4 Mac that I purchased in Feb. of this year unexpectedly crashed on me. I had to ship it off for repairs in the mist of many graphic and video deadlines. Therefore, I am not the happiest brother on the block. But as with my previous post I will take time to breathe and count my blessings each day.

On a lighter note, yet grander scale, I daily dream of my desires of travel abroad. I find that I have become obsessed with this notion for exploration. I recently received a belated birthday gift from my elder sister, which will be my first step to making this dream a reality. On this week, I will finally go for my passport. There is no trip in sight just yet, but the idea of having it is very exciting to me and further lets me know that I am well on my way to gaining my experience.

TO those of you who continue to view my post, I want to apologize for this rash and obsessive conversation on travel. It has always been a dream of mine to explore the world to see what life has to offer. As a child, my mom always pushed us to follow our dreams nomatter how far fetched they were. She would say that you would never know until you try if something would fail or not. As a brother, I am tired of the fears instilled in us to take chances in life. Therefore here is my chance to take a chance.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

Just when you think that summer could not end any better, enter Derron Christopher Cook. Twenty eight years to the date (the last day of summer) at on a Friday evening (Sept.22,1978) at Ochsner Hospital in New Orleans,LA. I made a grand entrance into the world at 6pm. After rushing into the world thirty minutes after my mom reached the hospital, I am still on my journey in this life. Still embracing all the love and afffection that was given to me from day one of conception. I can only thank God for his grace and mercies that have kept me this long. Everyday that I wake is a new birth from the day before. In my twenty eight years of maintaining this spirit that was given to me to transform and mold, I am daily renewed and reminded as i breath of my obligation to cherish my gift of being.

As in my previous post rgarding travel to volunteer, I feel that I was granted this life to take chances and to make a difference in others being. I have come to realize that even if I fall short or fail at a given task or goal, I have the breath and opportunity to try again or to even go back to square one as many times as my spirit and God allows. That is why I can make goals that to some are unobtainable, because I have realized that even if I fail, I know that God is good and he will never let me go at this life alone.

Along this walk in life, I have met a great deal of friends. Friends that are present and friends with whom I have lost sight and contact. Knowing that all these people are apart of my spirit and being, I just want to say thank you and I love you for you contributions into my life. If I have not been anything more, it gives me great pleasure to know that we are friends. With love in mind, I part into you the greatness of the Creator in all that you do and attempt to accomplish. No matter how long we are set to be on this path together, just know that I appreciate the company and comfort that was given on this journey.

My Goal to have a Life Altering Experience Through Travel

Okay, here I am at 5am looking for a job that will make an impact in my working, spiritual and cultural experience. While looking on the site I ran across a volunteer/intern program that allows one to travel to various countries to work in various ways. I have decided over the past few months that I wanted to travel abroad and here was my answer to my longing for this experience. I have decided to take the experience in the Motherland. My works would include HIV/AIDS awareness, conservation or local orphanages in Kenya or South Africa. This would also serve as a great opportunity to create a documentary on my travels. The great thing about this program is that it is year round and is a great way to vacation with a purpose. It is my plan to produce various fundraiser to fund my trip(s) back home to the first home that God built, AFRICA.

If there are an ideas concerning fundraising please feel free to give input. Also it would be dapper to have a group of friends with similar interest to travel together back to Africa.

Look forward to the Dapper productions for my educational experience. Also accepting donations from Mini DV tapes to cash gifts.

Celebrating Independence

On this weekend, I will be traveling to my home state of Louisiana to a town just on the outskirts of New Orleans which from what I hear are bursting at the seams in Katrina evacuees. LaPlace for the most part is very much country living although most there would not want to believe. It has been ten years since I had relocated from this area in which I was raised. While there, as with many small towns, the expectations for others were very low. It was predicted that I was not to live past the age of seventeen and if I did my life would be nothing worth mentioning. To the amazement of all there, I was the first in my family along with my mom and sister to attend and complete a degree from a four year college. Yet again, breaking the forces that had my life planned for destruction, I attended and completed graduate school. These accomplishments would be monumental in most cases, but in a small town like LaPlace it seems to be the seed of envy.

Attending college, as many of you may know, is no easy feat. There were many days when family was unavailable to assist with living and college expenses and those who could just simply refused to do so. I recall being in undergrad and being asked my own dad ‘what does your education have to do with me.’ Now being the first in his entire family to attend and complete college twice, I would think the pride alone of this accomplishment would have a lot to do with you. Yet when my first job came along at Upscale Magazine, he was first in line calling for a copy of my issues. Graduation, he is the last to put up cash to travel to Atlanta but the first to argue over pictures that my siblings and aunt took.The same occurred for my MFA degree; he did not attend but argued over photos. He never put a single dollar towards my college education.

It lately had been brought to my attention that he along with others was spreading the word that I am gay. The issue that I have is not that you could possibly be stating facts, but is an issue of motives. It is not as if I was called and asked by these people if the rumors were true or not. I am talking about people that I have not spoken to in years. It is of no interest to them if my bills are paid, if I am eating or in good health, neither is it of interest if I am mentally sound or accomplishing my goals. It is more important to these people to know who I decide to love and lie down with. Now we are talking about folks who never completed high school, never lived away from there parents more than five years, can get a decent job to save their lives and raised children who are common criminals and whores. It is great to see that the knowledge, or of lack there of, of my gayness has enriched so many lives. I would love to think that this info has inspired them to get their GED, continue on to college, receive great jobs and that they would prosper forever more. Yet the reality is that it has not. They are still living the lives that I left them with ten years earlier and their progeny have found it worthy to follow in their footsteps, accomplishing nothing.

Sometimes I think about my life and I can only thank God for the mother that he has given me. When all others told me that I could not achieve, she set the path for my achievements. When after her divorce all thought that she was too dependent to survive on her own, she showed me that a setback is only opportunity for greatness. Therefore I thank God for giving her the wisdom to rear an independent young man. So if my independence says that I am gay, then you are damn right I am. Maybe some of these KATRINA STIRRING, FEMA CHEATING, DEPENDENT “CHILDREN OF GOD” can get off of their asses and become productive independent/gay members of society and stay out of my business, unless they can add more positive blessings into my life.
